Poshmark’s New Klarna Partnership Should Make It Easier to Resell Your Stuff

There are a few reasons I love using resale apps, but the main one is that I’m not a very financially responsible person and these platforms—especially my beloved Poshmark—enable me to sell my old stuff for money, then use that money to buy cheaper versions of what I would otherwise be buying new. When I do have to buy new things (and I use the term “have to” loosely, unfortunately, because for some reason I always seem to have to), I’m no stranger to buy now, pay later setups, which allow me to make a purchase without immediately putting a big old dent in my checking account. You can imagine, then, that I was very pleased to see a press release in my inbox this morning alerting me that Poshmark and Klarna, a popular BNPL facilitator, are joining forces. It turns out, the partnership isn’t what you’d think. It’s not that you can buy now, pay later on Poshmark, but that you can quickly resell whatever you bought then, paid later on in the past.

    The Poshmark-Klarna partnership details

Billed as “a strategic partnership to simplify resale and empower consumers to earn from their wardrobes,” this new partnership allows users to find their past purchases on the Klarna app, then quickly and easily relist them on Poshmark whenever they’re ready to sell for something new.

I tested it myself and it works great. I opened the tab labeled payments on my Klarna app, then opened up one of the payments on a recent purchase. All the items I bought in that order were displayed along with two buttons: Buy again and Resell. Under resell, you can choose between eBay and Poshmark. I selected Poshmark and that app opened up to a new listing, which imported a stock photo of the jumpsuit I chose, a title ripped from the retail listing, and even a category selected (women > pants & jumpsuits > jumpsuits & rompers). The description, size, brand, and color were blank, as was the section where I could input the price I wanted to sell it for, but all of that is easy to fill in.

And I’d be remiss not to mention this nugget from the release: Right now, first-time listers who use the Klarna feature will get $10 in Posh Credit to spend on the app.

What do you think so far?

    Why I love this feature

First of all, I think it’s great that Poshmark seems to be constantly innovating. There’s always some new feature (like Smart Sell or Promoted Closet) or partnership (like the one that automatically shares your listings out to Facebook Marketplace shoppers) available to help you make money.

But this isn’t exactly new, either. A handful of retailers—like Everlane, Reformation, Lulus, For Love & Lemons, Hill House Home, Farm Rio, and Sézane—also allow you to list your purchases directly from your order page on their websites. I wouldn’t call myself a sustainability crusader or anything, but I do like when brands make an effort to be better, generally, and this initiative to support circular fashion pleases me.
